When we talk about mental health, we are referring to the cognitive, emotional and behavioural well-being of a person. It is about how people think, feel and behave.
When some genetic and environmental factors such as stress, depression and anxiety disrupt someone’s routine or affect their mental health, that person is said to have mental ill health or mental disorder. It is, therefore, a pattern or change in thinking, feeling or behaviour that causes distress or disrupts a person’s ability to function well, especially in their immediate society like home, school or other social gatherings.
