The Child in the Family

The Child in the Family is a book written by Dr Maria Montessori. It was originally published in Italian in 1923 with the name Il Bambino in Famiglia. It was later translated into English by Nancy Rockmore Cirillo and republished in Great Britain in 1975 as The Child in the Family.

In the book, Dr Maria Montessori seeks for better understanding and support for the child. She grieves and criticises how parents and educators attempt to shape children into their own image and offers a new paradigm of allowing the inner life of the child to shape itself. She also examines the parent-child and teacher-child relationship from its earliest stages.
