Numerical concepts can be a herculean task for children to grasp because developmentally, their brains are often not yet programmed or wired to understand things in abstract nature especially mathematical reasoning.
Several methods have been in use since the inception of teaching and learning, like the use of cherry seeds (udara seeds) for counting and solving mathematics. Materials such as bottle covers, pebbles, match boxes and local chess pieces were also used as counters in order to give children a muscular impression of numbers.
