Advocates against sexual abuse and harassment are raging at the increasing number of people who violate others’ sexual rights. According to the 2014 Nigeria Violence Against Children (VAC) survey by the National Population Commission, UNICEF and the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, six out of ten Nigerian children experience at least one form of violence before attaining the age of 18. What makes the concept of consent so difficult for these numerous violators to grasp and how can this be fixed? The solution lies in the children as Maria Montessori said, “Within the child lies the fate of the future.”
